For your final assignment, you will write an editorial piece on how you think the mass media affects you and your family. Using what we've read and discussed in class, along with your interview with an adult, you will create a 450-500 word article that discusses the media's role in your household. This includes television, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, etc. You need to decide whether the mass media of today's society has a negative OR positive affect in your life (you CANNOT chose both).
When you're finished writing your editorial, you will also create a collage using advertisements, images, and/or articles on an 8.5X11" piece of card stock (provided by Mrs. Rennels) to depict your negative or positive portrayal of the media.
This entire assignment is worth a total of 75 points:
50 points for the article
25 points for the collage
Be sure to proofread your article as proper grammar usage and mechanics (especially when using quotations) will be considered in your final grade. Also, your collage should be neat, aesthetically pleasing, and take up the entire piece of paper (no white space). You will be given the class period on Tuesday to work on your article and/or collage. Thursday's class will be used to present our collages.
